RE: 2020 Police Week Update - COVID-19 Pandemic

Brothers and Sisters,

FOP Leadership participated in a conference call this afternoon with leaders of the various organizations who are responsible for the most crucial parts of Police Week. Together it was decided to release the attached statement regarding Police Week 2020. Please share with our members.

We will be monitoring the reports and recommendations of the federal government and health administers to determine further actions. We understand the magnitude and extent of the any decision and but must be cognizant of our responsibility for the health and safety of Police Week participants.

Regardless of the challenges forced upon us by the Coronavirus (COVID-19), worldwide pandemic, we are moving forward with our planning. I remain confident that our team of dedicated committee and auxiliary members are actively exploring all avenues and are committed to honoring our fallen and their families.

I will keep you updated on future developments. Should you have any questions, don’t hesitate in contacting me. The following is a joint message regarding Police Week 2020:

Statement Regarding National Police Week 2020

Leaders of the organizations who plan National Police Week have had a discussion regarding the forecasted impact of the Coronavirus (COVID 19) on the events of May 9th through May 16th. While it is impossible to predict what the status of the virus will be two months from now, we are all keeping a close eye on the situation. At this time, there are no immediate plans to cancel events of National Police Week 2020 in Washington, D.C.

Please know we understand the enormity of the decision. We understand how important National Police Week is to survivors and co-workers who are attending to honor their officer for the first time, as well as those returning to pay respects and support each other. We will also treat the health and safety of our members and supporters as our top priority.

We are paying close attention and if the federal government and health administrators should issue recommendations requiring events in May be cancelled, a notification will be sent to all registered attendees and members of these organizations.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

From the Executive Leadership of:

Concerns of Police Survivors; National Fraternal Order of Police and Auxiliary; National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund; Officer Down Memorial Page; Law Enforcement United; Police Unity Tour; FOP D.C. Lodge 1
