RE: Colorado State FOP 2020 Biennial Conference - Cancellation
Brothers and Sisters,
In light of President Trump’s Address to the Nation regarding the Coronavirus worldwide pandemic (COVID-19), I have been in discussions with your State FOP Executive Board, the National FOP President, and the National FOP Trustee concerning the current Pandemic’s potential impact and exposure risk to our delegates and attendees for our upcoming 2020 Colorado State FOP Biennial Conference in Vail.
Based on their recommendations; the recommendations of President Trump; the recommendations of the Center for Disease Control; and in consideration of Colorado’s declared state of emergency along with nearby Summit County’s declaration of a public health emergency; it is with great regret that we are cancelling the 2020 Colorado FOP Biennial State Conference.
As difficult of a decision as this was to make, it was made in the best interest of all who would be attending. We understand the magnitude and extent of this decision, but must we be cognizant of our responsibility for the health and safety of conference participants. The health and well-being of our members is our highest priority. Your safety is foremost in our minds.
We will be monitoring the reports and recommendations of the federal and state governments as well as the CDC to determine further actions. We are currently discussing options regarding the business of the conference involving State Executive Board elections, and voting on other priority business that would have been decided at the conference. Correspondence from us regarding all these matters will be sent to you in the coming week.
You will need to cancel your hotel reservations and/or travel arrangements ASAP. If you have any problems cancelling your room reservations please contact State FOP Secretary David Acunto directly, or call the State Lodge at 303-426-1733. If you have completed your conference registration and paid the registration fee, we are in the process of getting you your registration fees returned.
These are difficult times, and as always please take care of yourself and your families, and follow the best practices of the CDC to remain safe and maintain social distancing when at all possible.
Fraternally,
Stephen Schulz, President
Colorado State Lodge Fraternal Order of Police
