Colorado FOP Assistance Local Lodges on Special Shopping Hours 1st Responders

Brothers and Sisters,

First, we want to thank you for your tireless service and devotion to the public safety needs of the citizens of your communities during this difficult time in our nation’s history. Words cannot express the gratefulness of the citizens for the risks you take to keep them safe.

During this national emergency it is imperative for law enforcement officers to stay healthy in order to continue to provide necessary public safety services to their communities. As such it is essential police and sheriff’s personnel reduce all potential exposure to the COVID-19 virus while off duty. That necessitates they eliminate and/or reduce contact with the public as much as possible during off duty hours.

It has come to my attention that in various places, both nationally and in Colorado, some essential businesses, including grocery stores, are working with law enforcement to accommodate those needs by setting aside special hours where a law enforcement officer and/or their spouse are able to shop without increased off duty exposure.

The Colorado FOP is urging the leadership of each of its local lodges across the state to reach out to essential businesses and try to make similar arrangements. We have prepared a letter for each lodge to give to a business when making the request. We are hoping that it will help get you started in setting up an accommodation with the essential businesses in your jurisdictions.

Use the attached letter (see link below) as you see fit with businesses in your area to assist your members. Please let the State Lodge know of any successes you do have with businesses in your area. Our office number is 303-426-1733.

Thanks for all you do, and keep yourself and your families safe and healthy.

Stephen Schulz, State President

Colorado State Lodge, Fraternal Order of Police
