Training Opportunity - Warrior Survival at Home and on the Streets
Updated On: Aug 13, 2018

This training is free to FOP members and family. Seats are limited and will fill up quickly. Partners in Crime (Spouses/Significant Others) Invited to Attend.

Law enforcement can be one of the most challenging yet rewarding professions in our society. However, the challenges are growing daily. The men and women who are “called” to this vital profession are exposed to all the traumas our society has to offer and then expected to go home and merely shed the “garbage” at the end of the shift and peacefully co habitat and communicate with their spouses/significant others/families. In order to become successful and survive as “warriors”, they are forced to develop a persona that allows them to deal with daily insults, without taking them personally. They often shut down emotionally and distance themselves from their families in order to protect them from the things they see on a daily basis and the “garbage” they are exposed to. This can lead to isolation and all too often post traumatic stress, addictions, health related issues and even suicide.

Whether you are Federal, State, or local law enforcement, STRESS KILLLS! This course provides critical information to combat the deadly stress that destroys marriages, careers and lives. Learn how to take control of this killer and live a healthier life by “TAKING OUT THE GARBAGE”.

This is one of the ONLY trainings that truly deals with the issues regarding the “lifestyle” of the law enforcement profession and is appropriate for spouses/significant others because it is taught by individuals with real life experience!

Instructors:
Susan Lewis Simons, an Internationally recognized Subject Matter Expert in Law Enforcement Stress and a Board Certified Expert in Traumatic Stress will discuss the deadly impact of Cumulative Stress and Critical Incidents on the individual and family and the ways to combat these negative effects. Susan was married for over 20 years to a law enforcement officer and brings a unique perspective to the issues that have been inadvertently excluded from law enforcement trainings and academies.

Officer Marc Valenzuela began his career as an officer with the Phoenix Arizona Police Department in In May of 2016 Marc and his Sgt were ambushed while responding to a Domestic Violence call in Phoenix. Both were shot and Marc was able to stay in the fight and eventually neutralize the threat. Marc and Sgt Wong were named Top Cops the next year during National Police Week in D.C. His story of how this event, as well as his military service, affected his life, personally and professionally is enlightening and encouraging.

“Susan has been there for our police and military, at time of need, literally worldwide. Susan Simons is a national treasure and a fellow warrior-healer who I am proud and honored to call a friend and a colleague.” Lt. Col. Dave Grossman (USA, ret.) Author On Killing and On Combat.
